Almost 300 nominations were received throughout South Australia, across 11 categories – a 60 per cent increase on last year’s Awards.

Carers taking on unique and complex challenges, volunteers teaching young people to drive, a program that connects and supports foster carers and a program that is increasing the number of children and young people accessing dental care are among dozens of finalists in the 2022 SA Child Protection Awards.

The Awards celebrate the work of those going above and beyond to improve the lives of vulnerable children, young people and families.

Delivered by the Department for Child Protection in partnership with the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN), the Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of children and young people, carers, volunteers, staff and organisations from across the child protection sector.

Almost 300 nominations were received throughout South Australia, across 11 categories – a 60 per cent increase on last year’s Awards.

"It’s always heartening to see the strong passion of those involved with child protection," says Minister for Child Protection, the Hon Katrine Hildyard MP. "So many generously and tirelessly devote their time and energy to supporting children and young people and to improving their lives and the lives of those around them. It is incredibly important that we recognise and celebrate these remarkable efforts and shine a light on them.

"I want to thank all of our extraordinary finalists for their commitment to supporting South Australian children and young people, and helping them thrive and reach their goals."

NAPCAN Chief Executive Officer, Richard Cook, says, "Child Protection Week will continue to embrace the theme ‘Every child, in every community, needs a fair go’. It is a time to remind the whole community that child abuse and neglect is preventable, and that it has an impact on all of us, now and into the future. These awards are a wonderful opportunity to recognise South Australians who are playing their part in creating the safe and supportive environments that every child needs."

Award winners will be announced during National Child Protection Week on Friday 9 September at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
