Children and young people in care, or who have transitioned from care, may be covered for the cost of emergency hospital transport up to the age of 21 years.

This is part of the Investing in their future initiative.

For non-emergency transport, the child or young person’s treating medical practitioner must confirm that an ambulance is the most appropriate means of transport and provide written authorisation.

Costs may be covered for:

  • an eligible child or young person aged up to 21 years currently in care
  • young persons aged 18-21 who have left care.

To make an ambulance claim, forward your invoice to your nearest Department for Child Protection Office or email DCPInsurance@sa.gov.au. Together with your:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Case workers name (if you have one)
  • Contact details – email, address and phone number
