Children and Young People with Disability Australia

Children and Young People with Disability Australia (CYDA) is the national peak body for children and young people with disability. CYDA's purpose is to ensure government, communities and families are empowering children and young people with disability to fully exercise their rights and aspirations.

Caring for Aboriginal children and young people with disability

The First Peoples Disability Network Australia (FDPN) is a national organisation of and for Australia’s First Peoples with disability, their families and community. FDPN has produced resources that carers of Aboriginal children and young people with disability may find useful:

  • Benny Boy Goes Bush – short film created by community to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children living with disability and their families to prepare them for cultural participation

The Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC) Supporting Carers website provides information and support services about caring for Aboriginal children with developmental delay and disability.

Caring for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Raising Children have produced a range of resources for parents and carers of children and young people with autism, including understanding behaviour and common behaviour concerns, communicating and relationships, health and wellbeing , school, play & work and children & autism videos.

PlayConnect provides supported playgroups for families of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental delays or behavioural concerns. As part of their work PlayConnect has developed a suite of resources to assist parents and carers of children with autism spectrum disorder to understand autism and how to best support their child, including family handbooks, tip sheets and play activities

Caring for children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder

NOFASD Australia promotes prevention, diagnosis, intervention and management for individuals and families living with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). The resources available include a comprehensive toolkit for parents, carers and families of children with FASD or suspected FASD.

FASD Hub Australia provides general information to parents and carers, health professionals, researchers, policy makers and the public about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. They have produced a list of trusted resources for parents and carers of children with FASD.
