The following outlines the responsibilities for service providers in transporting children and young people.

Family based placements

The service provider is responsible for ensuring the carers they support are aware of their responsibilities in transporting children and young people as outlined in the Family based carers: Transporting children and young people fact sheet and supporting carers in undertaking these responsibilities. As part of this requirement, the responsibilities listed below must be completed by service provider personnel, if requested by the carer:

  • provide the carer with information regarding how to prepare a vehicle for transporting children and young people
  • provide the carer with information regarding their responsibilities to abide by the road rules, including the requirement for child restraints
  • provide the carer with guidance when responding to issues during transport
  • support the carer with identifying appropriate people in their support network who may be able to assist with transport
  • assist the carer in seeking financial assistance or assistance from DCP with transport
  • assist the carer with seeking approval from DCP for other people in their support network to be able to provide regular transport for children and young people.
