If you are working with young people who are currently in care, or were previously in care for at least 6 months, please refer them to Post Care Support Services as they prepare for independence.

One of our top priorities as a department is improving transition from care for young people (Priority 4, Every effort for every child). This not only sets up individual young people for success, but can also help to break cycles of intergenerational involvement with the child protection system.

Post care support is an important part of helping young people transition successfully to adult life. Young people over 16.5 years old with a care experience can access Post Care Support Services at Elm Place (Relationships Australia South Australia). This service is free of charge, and can help young people with:

  • housing applications
  • gaining employment
  • accessing education
  • independent living skills
  • applying for grants
  • reconnecting with family and culture.
