DCP Chief Executive Jackie Bray has initiated a unique program to help engage young members of the No Capes for Change group.

Jackie (pictured left) offered members to shadow her as she goes about her work day, to give them a better understanding of how the department works.

Two members of the group Felicity Graham (pictured centre) and Brooke Oliver (pictured right) have taken part. Both are strong advocates for people with a care experience. Brooke was particularly impressed.

“I’ve never had anyone within child protection be so transparent,” she said. “To be able to open their office space like that. It was great to be aware of what happens behind the scenes.”

Brooke now works in post care with Relationships Australia, and was a finalist at the recent SA Child Protection Awards.

“I learned about what you do with the money and where it goes,” she said.

Felicity, who is an author, advocate and a Young South Australian of the Year nominee, agreed the experience provided valuable insight, which she planned to share with members of the No Capes for Change group.

A highlight of her day was bravely introducing Jackie in front of hundreds of colleagues at the recent DCP Recognition Awards.

“It was fun,” she said. “It was a good experience to see how they all go about their work. It’s nice to know who’s in charge at DCP.”
