DCP has co-led national negotiations to develop a new National Framework, Safe and Supported: The National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children 2021-2031 (Framework).

The Framework, agreed in-principle by Community Services Ministers on 17 September 2021 is due to be launched in November 2021. It will succeed the previous National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children 2009-2020.

The Framework will provide high-level strategic direction for new, national collective effort by all jurisdictions, targeted at protecting children and supporting vulnerable and at-risk families. It will be accompanied by 2X5-year action plans, with a separate action plan specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.

South Australia’s Fiona Ward, DCP Deputy Chief Executive has been recognised nationally for her role in co-leading with the Australian Government the national working group to design and develop the Framework. DCP has also been recognised for its work to support SNAICC – National Voice for Our Children to deliver a national co-design process with First Nations leaders and communities across Australia.
