With the beginning of the 2022 school year, we wanted to provide an update on the DCP School Scholarships Program and its ongoing expansion.

We understand the program is the first of its kind in Australia and is part of DCP’s ongoing effort to invest in the futures of children and young people in care and secure priority access to programs and services that support their development.

A quality education is foundational to children and young people in care looking forward to a bright future. For some, attending a non-government school can provide educational opportunities that best reflect their particular talents and aspirations.

DCP has partnered with Catholic Education South Australia (CESA) and a number of independent schools to provide scholarships for children and young people in care to attend these schools fee free and with a package of educational supports. Check out the available scholarships below and visit the DCP website to stay up to date as we partner with new schools in the future.

Catholic Education SA

CESA was first to partner with us and has been fantastic in continuing to approve scholarships for children in care at Catholic schools. In January 2022, the total number of CESA scholarships was 216! The scholarships are available at Catholic schools across the state and continue each year until the child or young person completes their schooling.

SEDA College SA

SEDA College SA in Dulwich is offering scholarships for young people in year 11 who are interested in particular sporting streams. Students achieve a trade-level SACE with a VET qualification, industry mentoring and the opportunity for

traineeships within the sporting industry. So far we have filled four of the SEDA College scholarships, however there are still places available for Soccer, Cricket, Netball and AFL.

Pedare Christian College

Pedare Christian College in Golden Grove is offering one scholarship for a student commencing in Year 6 in 2023. In addition to standard core subjects, Pedare’s curriculum provides a wide range of specialist subjects that may suit the talents and interests of particular children and young people in care.

Please help us make the most of these opportunities. If you know of a child or young person in care who may benefit from a scholarship at one of these schools, please discuss it with the carer and the child’s DCP case worker.
