Carers are encouraged to get themselves and the children and young people in their care vaccinated for the flu, under a new State Government program providing free flu shots to all South Australians until 30 June 2022.

After two years of COVID-19 precautions, our natural immunity is lower than usual, resulting in higher infections already. As of 24 May, South Australia reported 1,195 cases of influenza compared to only 12 at the same time last year.

Influenza A and B are highly infectious and can lead to other complications like pneumonia, myocarditis (inflammation of the heart), neurological conditions, and other bacterial infections.

Speak to your case worker if you need assistance with booking an appointment or transport.

More information about the program can be found on the SA Health website.
