Expressions of Interest are now open to join the State Government's  Carer Council.

Creating the Carer Council was a key recommendation in Dr Fiona Arney's Independent Inquiry into Foster and Kinship Care to amplify the voices of carers and provide the Minister for Child Protection, the Hon. Katrine Hildyard MP, with independent advice that contributes to the design of policy, practice and reform surrounding foster and kinship care in South Australia.

The 12-person Council is an opportunity to ensure South Australia's foster and kinship carer community is heard. As such, the Carer Council will be comprised of:

  • Five foster carer members
  • Seven kinship carer members

Of the 12 Carer Council members, carers will be appointed to represent metropolitan, regional and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

EOIs are welcomed from approved active carers, with lived experience as a family based carer, from metropolitan and regional areas and include members of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Expressions of Interest will close on Monday 16 October 2023 at 5pm. Successful candidates will be notified by Monday 6 November 2023.

Connecting Foster and Kinship Carers SA Inc is responsible for administering the Carer Council.
