In recognition of the importance of listening to those with lived and living experience of the system, the Direct Experience Group, comprising families, parents and people with direct experience of the complexities of the child protection and family support system, has been formed to ensure that reform is informed by their perspectives and experiences.

The establishment of this group recognises that family members and those who may have experienced involvement with the system themselves have a wealth of knowledge to offer, with the Direct Experience Group providing independent advice to the Minister for Child Protection.

The membership of the Direct Experience Group reflects a diverse cross-section of people with lived and living experience of the child protection and family support system in South Australia.

The Direct Experience Group has consulted on a range of child protection and family support initiatives, including family and sibling connections, and assessments and investigations.
