The Child and Young People (Safety and Support) Act 2025, was passed by the Parliament in June 2025, and the Department for Child Protection (DCP) is progressing priority areas of reform to support implementation.
Under Division 4, section 30 of the new legislation, the Chief Executive, DCP is to develop and publish Guidelines relating to the receipt and handling of complaints and feedback across the Department.
In accordance with these provisions, the Complaints and Feedback Management Guidelines (PDF, 2.3 MB) have now been drafted for consultation. These Guidelines outline how complaints and feedback can be submitted to DCP, how they will be addressed, how procedural fairness will be applied and provides the options available should a complainant remained dissatisfied with an outcome or decision, including referral to relevant external authorities.
DCP is inviting submissions from a variety of stakeholders to ensure the Guidelines provide transparent and valuable guidance to complainants. Accordingly, the views from carers are invited and welcomed.
You can find the draft Complaints and Feedback Management Guidelines here for your review and feedback.
Please provide your written feedback about the Guidelines to DCP, by close of business Friday 16 October 2026 through the following email address: DCPGovernanceandStrategicProjects@sa.gov.au.
All feedback will be reviewed considered prior to finalisation and publication of the Guidelines. Your ongoing collaboration is appreciated, and the department looks forward to your input.
