There are still scholarships available for the 2023 school year. If you know a child or young people in care who may benefit from a scholarship, speak to your DCP case worker.

The Department for Child Protection (DCP) is committed to helping children and young people in care to thrive and reach their full potential, especially at school. This is why DCP has partnered with Catholic Education South Australia and a number of non-government schools to provide scholarships to children in care. These scholarships include full tuition and a package of educational supports.

Attending a non-government school can provide educational opportunities that support and foster a child or young person’s particular interests and aspirations. DCP has received some wonderful feedback from carers about the scholarships.

‘The children are excited to go to school every day despite their struggles and they give it their best shot. They still have tricky days, but they are never made to feel ashamed as they are therapeutically supported by trauma informed staff. Very special teachers are playing an important role in helping to change my children’s stories and show them they are loved, respected, valued and that there are people that ‘see’ them.’

Schools that offer scholarships include:

  • Catholic schools across the state
  • SEDA College SA (a senior secondary college focused on different sports – various metro campus locations)
  • Pedare Christian College in Golden Grove
  • Golden Grove Lutheran Primary School in Wynn Vale
  • Good Shepherd Lutheran School in Angaston, Barossa Valley
  • St Peter’s Woodlands Grammar School in Glenelg
