A new online program, Caring for Children and Young People with Trauma, is now available to foster and kinship carers in South Australia.

DCP commissioned the Australian Childhood Foundation (ACF) to develop and deliver a learning and development training package for carers called Caring for Children and Young People with Trauma.

ACF’s Centre for Excellence in Therapeutic Care has created two training packages, tailored for foster carers and kinship carers. Work is underway on developing a third package that reflects the needs of Aboriginal carers and carers of Aboriginal children and young people.

This learning and development training is being delivered online, supporting family-based carers to develop their knowledge and skills to provide trauma-responsive care to children and young people.

The course also helps develop a better understanding of neurobiology and child development, and the impact trauma has on child development.

Carers who have not already registered their interest in the Caring for Children and Young People with Trauma course, can do so here.
