The Post Care Support Service (PCSS) at Relationships Australia South Australia (RASA) has recently launched a new free podcast series for young care leavers, in care and living independently.

'Straight Up' features interviews with young care leavers and professionals and explores a range of topics relevant to young people and the care system.

The weekly podcasts are part of a range of resources provided by the GOM Central project, which is supported by PCSS, and includes videos, a blog and the GOM City mobile app.

Five podcasts are now available and include a COVID-19 spin off, called “Corona Convos”, featuring phone conversations with different young care leavers about how their life has changed since COVID-19.

GOM Central evolved from a desire by PCSS to provide a range of youth-centred multi-media resources available online for young care leavers.

The project started by consulting with a group of young people from care backgrounds, talking about the challenges they faced during their transition to independence, and what would have helped them. The group meets regularly, making key decisions and shaping content. It was these young care leavers who chose the name; GOM Central.

The podcasts are shared weekly on RASA’s social media channels, or you can listen to the episodes online.
