The South Australian Child Protection Expert Group will comprise government and non-government members from across Australia who have recognised expertise in child protection research, policy and practice.

The establishment of this group will fulfil the first recommendation of Kate Alexander’s independent review of the state’s child protection system.

The expert group has been tasked with:

• Improving child protection response models and quality of practice
• Developing and implementing a 20-year vision for transforming child protection
• Enhancing therapeutic responses and targeted interventions
• Improving out of home care support for young people
• Convening a child protection summit

Members include:

• Professor Leah Bromfield, Director of the Australian Centre for Child Protection (Chair)
• Adjunct Professor Muriel Bamblett, Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency CEO
• Dr Megan Crawford, Chief Practitioner Child and Family Services, Queensland Government
• Professor Sharon Dawe, Professor of Clinical Psychology Griffith University
• Dr Robyn Miller, MacKillop Family Services CEO
• Associate Professor Melissa O’Donnell, Australian Centre for Child Protection
• Claire Ralfs, Relationships Australia SA CEO
• Nerida Saunders, Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation Executive Director
• Simon Schrapel, Uniting Communities CEO
• Shirley Young, Director, Two Worlds Consultancy

A number of senior SA Government leaders will also provide their input to the expert group.

The group will meet between four and six times per year.
