For over two decades, Dame Roma Mitchell Grants have been supporting children and young people to achieve goals relating to wellbeing and personal and professional development.

In round one earlier this year, grants worth $87,000 were given out to 100 applicants, for a range of items and services including driving lessons, house furnishings and education supplies, intended to empower and support them through life.

The Dame Roma Mitchell Grants are available to children and young people, aged under 30, with a care experience.

Specific items and opportunities young people with a care experience have received grants for include:

  • Study support, such as textbooks, chairs and desks
  • Electrical goods, such as laptops, TVs and power tools
  • Whitegoods, such as microwaves and fridges
  • Medical support
  • Gym memberships and martial arts
  • Driving lessons.
