September is a busy and exciting month in the child protection space, with a variety of activities to recognise National Child Protection Week (1-7 September) and Foster and Kinship Carer Week (8-14 September). We are pleased to be hosting and supporting a number of events.

Carer thank you events

For Foster and Kinship Carer Week 2019 we are hosting more local thank you events, allowing a greater number of carers to participate in both metro and regional locations. If you are a carer, this is our chance to thank you for everything you do. Please come along to one of the lunches or dinners which provide an opportunity to gather, connect and enjoy some time out.

Stall at the Royal Adelaide Show

When: Friday 30 August – Sunday 8 September
Where: Stall E58, Jubilee Pavilion, Adelaide Showground

We’re raising awareness about how to become a carer and thanking our current carers through a booth at the Royal Adelaide Show. There will be experienced foster care agency staff and foster carers on hand at various times to answer your questions. Swing by and say hello.

8th SNAICC National Conference

The Secretariat of National Aboriginal & Islander Child Care (SNAICC) is hosting its 8th national conference right here in Adelaide with the theme ‘Growing Up with Strong Identity, Culture and Connection’. Delegates and speakers will discuss their experiences in raising happy, healthy and confident children who are safe in culture, community and connected to family.

Australian Association for Infant Mental Health National (AAIMH) Conference

When: Wednesday 4 – Saturday 7 September
Where: Adelaide Convention Centre, Adelaide
Cost: Day delegate and full delegate tickets available

AAIMH will host its yearly conference in Adelaide this year with the theme ‘Our Infants – Infant Mental Health is a Public Health Matter’. We are sponsoring the Karen Fitzgerald Oration, where Professor Mary Dozier will discuss how early adversity impacts brain and behavioural development in infants and young children, with a focus on the role of the carer.

Putting children first: changing the way we frame parenting to improve child wellbeing in Australia

When: Friday 6 September 2019, 9.30am - 1.00pm

This Q&A forum will discuss how we can support parents with the right policies, and build collective responsibility with the right communication. Keynote speaker: Dr Nat Kendall-Taylor, CEO, FrameWorks Institute, United States.

Organised by the National Association for Prevention of Child abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) in partnership with the Government of South Australia and Healthy Development Adelaide.
