This year, the Department for Child Protection has developed a new online grants portal which further streamlines the grant process for applicants and support workers.

A total of $93,000 has been allocated towards grants for the current grant round which will aim to support successful applicants to achieve personal goals, contribute towards their health and wellbeing and provide them with further developmental opportunities.

The grants contribute towards items and services such as essential basic furniture and white goods, computers, driving lessons, further education, wellbeing supports and more.

Minister for Child Protection Rachel Sanderson said 214 children and young people shared in more than $178,000 in grants in 2021 and urged eligible young people to apply for the first round of 2022 grants.

“We are committed to supporting children and young people in care to reach their full potential and the Dame Roma Mitchell grants play an important part in this,” Minister Sanderson said.

“In the past these grants have been used to support independence, re-engage in learning and pursue a wide range of social, recreational and self-development opportunities, all with the aim of helping children and young people to follow their dreams.”

Round one grant applications close on 18 March 2022. The second round will open in August.
