The Aboriginal Action Plan 2019-20 sets out a range of actions that the department will take to improve outcomes for Aboriginal children in care.

The action plan acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle as a guiding framework for action, and commits to active efforts across each of the 5 core elements – Prevention, Partnership, Placement, Participation and Connection.

The plan aligns with the department’s commitment to the Family Matters campaign and the state government’s Aboriginal Affairs Action Plan.

Artwork

DCP has partnered with Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara artist Elizabeth Close and Ochre Dawn Creative Industries - led by Peramangk and Ngarrindjeri woman Rebecca Wessels to produce an art piece that will be used across all relevant departmental documents.

The beautiful artwork featured proudly on DCP’s Action Plan depicts the journey that DCP is undertaking towards improving outcomes for Aboriginal children and young people. The images in the circles each represent an element of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle. The thread that ties all of these elements together is a single thread – representing the journey of the child and young person in care, and underlines the importance of all of these elements collectively.
