The foster carers charter was developed by the Department for Child Protection, in collaboration with relative, kinship and foster carers in South Australia, Connecting Foster Carers SA, and alternative care service provider agencies.
The state government has endorsed this charter as a statement of their strong commitment to every foster, relative and kinship carer in South Australia who provide day to day care for children separated from their biological parents on an occasional, temporary or permanent basis. This includes:
- respite care
- emergency placement
- short to medium term care where the goal is reunification with the biological parents
- long-term care where the placement is intended to be permanent.
