Nominations are now open for the inaugural SA Child Protection Awards, which will celebrate the achievements of those who provide vital support to vulnerable children and young people throughout the state.

The awards will recognise the contributions government, non-government and philanthropic partners have made to improve the lives of families, children and young people.

Delivered in partnership between the Department for Child Protection (DPC) and the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN), the awards will also acknowledge the incredible role of family-based carers and volunteers.

How to nominate

Do you know an individual or organisation that has made an outstanding contribution to improve the lives of South Australian families, children and young people?

Please note:

  • to be eligible, nominations for individuals will need to include the person’s SA Working with Children Check SRN number and expiry date
  • nominations received after the close date will not be able to be accepted
  • nominations may be reallocated to a different award category if deemed more appropriate.

Eligibility

Individual

Nominees must:

  1. Be Australian residents (temporary or permanent); and
  2. Have contributed to the improvement of outcomes for children, young people and families in South Australia through their work in supporting and protecting at risk children and young people and keeping them safe from harm.
  3. Have their application endorsed by the Chief Executive or Board of their aligned not for profit organisation or local council.
  4. Provide proof of their working with children check screening or consent to a screening process.
  5. Nominations must address the criteria in the application form and focus on the specific contributions of the nominee.
  6. Provide a minimum of two referees.
  7. The judging panel reserves the right to reallocate the application to a different award category if it is deemed more suitable to another category.
  8. The judging panel reserves the right to not present an award in that category if it feels there are no suitable nominations.

If it is deemed a satisfactory screening of an individual is not a fit and proper person to receive an Award, then that individual will be withdrawn from consideration for the Award. Withdrawal of an individual or a team’s application will be at the sole discretion of the Department for Child Protection and will not be subject to review or appeal.

Organisation

  1. Be registered as an Australian Business or not for profit organisation
  2. Have contributed to the improvement of outcomes for children, young people and families in South Australia through their work in supporting and protecting at risk children and young people and keeping them safe from harm.
  3. Have their application endorsed by the organisation’s board or management.
  4. Provide proof of their organisations Child safe environment compliance statement and the date of lodgement with the Department of Human Services.
  5. Nominations must address the criteria in the application form and focus on the specific contributions of the organisation.
  6. Provide a minimum of two referees.
  7. The judging panel reserves the right to reallocate the application to a different award category if it is deemed more suitable to another category.
  8. The judging panel reserves the right to not present an award in that category if it feels there are no suitable nominations.
