The Department for Child Protection (DCP) has developed a new approach to delivering support to kinship carers supported through the DCP Kinship Care Program. The Targeted Support Approach (TSA) was developed through consultation to deliver the right support at the right time.

We are very pleased to be providing more flexible support to meet the individual needs of kinship carers throughout their caring journey. The TSA enables kinship carers supported through the DCP Kinship Care Program to receive support at three different levels: intensive, medium and low. All new kinship carers will receive intensive support for a minimum of six months, to orientate them to their caring role.

If you are an existing carer supported through the DCP Kinship Care Program, your kinship care worker will discuss with you what supports you identify as being important to you and your family. The kinship care worker will review your support needs with you and with the case worker (s) for the child(ren) in your care and recommend your support level for approval by their Kinship supervisor.  A letter notifying you of the level of support you can expect will then be provided to you. At any point you can discuss changes to your current support needs with your kinship care worker.

For more details about the TSA process, please refer to the DCP Kinship Care Program: Targeted Support Approach fact sheet for kinship carers.

We value the contribution you and other kinship carers are making, and commit to doing all we can to support you as a valued and respected member of the child/ren’s care team.
