The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) has launched its new Cyber Security Instruction Manual: A Kid’s Guide to Using the Internet Securely, to teach parents and carers cyber secure practices to share with children and young people.

Children and young people have become more connected through the power of the internet, but it is important they understand how to identify cyber threats and prevent them.

Cybercriminals are always coming up with new ways to target people online, so it’s important to stay updated with the latest cyber security advice.

The ACSC is encouraging parents and carers to teach kids the following five basic cyber security principles:

  1. Update your device
  2. Turn on multi-factor authentication
  3. Back up your device
  4. Use a passphrase
  5. Recognise and report scams

Keep up the conversations about cyber security with your friends and family. To learn more about talking to children and young people about cyber security and for fun activities and resources, read the new ACSC Kids Guide.
